Solo (Cameron)

Solo Research
Topic:To understand which way is the best way to entice more students to sign up for SST school enrolment.
Significance:So SST can try the best areas and ways to get more students trying out for the DSA.
It is manageable as the most of the research can be done in sst.
sst does not have many people and it is easy to interview them as i know quite a lot of them. And 50 is already enough to interview.Surveys can also be used.

Group E ( Darren, Yong Hong, Ragul )

a) How do planes fly and how do they crash???
b) It is foccused as we want to learn more about aviation and use the facts to apply into the air crashes.
c) There are many air crashes in the previous decades. Although the number of aircrashes are decreasing, we want to trying to understand why aircrashes happen, reconstruct them and understand how to cope with aircrashes.
d) Not really. We can learn more on the internet, and reconstruct the events on simulations. However the difficult part is if we want to interview real investigators of aircrashes.
e) Yes it is. It would not be too difficult or dangerous.
f) We can also get videos and cockpit recorders. And hear the last words the pilots said before their crashes.
g) Yes it is. Except for the part of interviewing real crash investigators which is optional.
g) We will get from google, wikipedia and the aircrash site, where they have cockpit voice recorders.
h) Our data collected is from the internet and from experiments.

Group A (Dylaine, Jamie, Jean Yee)

Sorry for the late posting.

(A) A STATEMENT OF YOUR RESEARCH TITLE
What kind of local food are Singaporeans in Bishan most interested in?
(B) EXPLAIN WHY IS IT FOCUSSED
We did this topic as we can understand more about what part of the Singapore food is more well liked by Singaporeans.
(C) EXPLAIN WHY IS IT SIGNIFICANT
This way, shop vendors wanting to open new stalls will have a better idea what the majority like. People organising public events may also use this information to order what the majority like.
(D) EXPLAIN WHY IS IT FEASIBLE
We do not have to do the survey over a wide area.
(E) EXPLAIN WHY IS IT MANAGEABLE
The small location allows us to collect needed data but using lesser time than if required for the whole Singapore.
(F) EXPLAIN WHY IS IT ACCESSIBLE
There is food everywhere, and people everywhere to survey :D

(A)STATE AT LEAST 3 SOURCES OF INFORMATION THAT YOU WILL BE DRAWING YOUR RESEARCH UPON (3 web links) AND WHY YOU CHOOSE THEM.
Ideas for local food:
  1. http://www.best-singapore-guide.com/local-singapore-food.html
  2. http://www.singaporebusinesshotels.net/food-cuisines-singapore/singaporean-cuisine.html

Shopping centres (More people):
  1. http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel_sites/whats_nearby/80/shopping_mall/districts/Bishan/
  1. STATE YOUR TYPE OF DATA COLLECTION AS IN TIP 5
We will be going to Bishan to survey those walking around, or eating, what is their favourite food.

Group G ( Nicholas, Nathaniel, Sean, Hamidshah )

a) Is it the reason why the population of common mynas in singapore decrease because of the existence of the javan mynas in singapore?
b) It is focused because it affects the existence of the common mynas in singapore
c) Javan mynas are easily found at roadsides, fields, parks etc. But the only problems are where can we find common mynas, and how do we catch and keep them?
d) We only need to catch them by luring them using food into a tank/ bird stand and buy food for them to eat.

e) It does not take too much money as we only need to catch food such as bread to feed them, and make a place for the birds to stay temporarily.
f) We only need to find a space to keep them, and feed them every day and record our findings.

Group F (Saishwar, Alvin and Marcellus)

a) Most visited websites in SST Sec 1
b) It is specific on only a small number of people in SST
c) So that we can judge whether students visit safe websites
d) We can test people online which is easy for everyone since we are more connected Socially..
e) It is more focussed on a certain audience and thus we will not struggle much.
f) There are not many people to survey
g) Google, Wikipedia, Ask From Others
h) Surveys

Group D ( LiuGuoJin, YongMingYang, WooJunWei, YeoHungKye )

A) How the growth of green bean seeds are affected by the materials they are growing on in Singapore.
B) It is focused only on GREEN BEANS and its GROWTH ON DIFFERENT MATERIALS.
C) As green bean seed can be used as a good source of nutrient, the soil which it is grown on will be important to its growth.
D) The only variables we need are green beans, water and different types of soil, which is totally affordable, and convenient to get.
E) It is extremely easy to plant green bean seeds and attain data.
F) Because it is just a few pots with seed inside.
G) Google, Wikipedia, and Interviews from people.
H) We will plot graphs on the growth of individual green beans on the different soils.

Group S1-08B (Zhi An and Princeton)

Investigation of the culture and uniqueness in SST.

It is focused as it concerns SST students
It is significant as it tells us how SST is unique from other schools
It is feasible as we are in SST
It is manageable as we can easily interview people from SST
It is accessible as we are in SST. =.= (again)
3 Sources of info:
Comparison with other schools
The attitude of people in SST (FB)
How do SST students constantly keep up with others (FB & Face to Face)
